In September 2009 Carbon Logic launched a search for today's up & coming bass music producers.

During a 4 month period, over 700 Tracks from across the globe were submitted. 700 were filtered to 120. 120 to 82. And finally 82 to the 15 outstanding tracks collected on the Grassroots 12" and LP.

Compiled by Nick Argon (Argon Records), BunZer0 (Sub FM), Twisted (Dutty Dubz) and Will Blaze (3.5 Records), The Grassroots 12" and Companion LP represent the panel's final selection, a snapshot of the rapidly splintering scenes of dubstep, bass music and beyond as we head into 2010.

Nick Argon's winning track was Suspect by 17 year old newcomer Partition. It is accompanied on The Grassroots 12" by a Remix from rising star of the Bristol 'purple sound' Gemmy (Planet Mu) with Argon's runner-up Amusia by Uproot on the B side.

"The GRASSROOTS LP kicks off with ‘Peregruzka' by SOOK, a thunderously dubby track, grumbly and growly. The deep, techy bass getting any true dubstep fan's appetite whet and hungry for more. The second track 'Daybreak' by YLEM, moves away to a lighter, dreamy dub-sound. The contrasts of the track selections work very well. 'Dangerous' by TKR has a tinny, metallic timbre reminiscent of early, old-school dubstep. The combination of compositions by different artists illustrates individual inspirations by a panoply of diverse sub-genres and musical styles. In ‘Kizgin Kannaci' by BAMSEE there are musical flavours of old-school garage mixed with an Indian raga vibe. There are continually changing dub sounds throughout the album, track after track. From the wild energetic, driven sound of ‘The Rhythm' by GON, the twisted, psychotic sound of 'Amusia' by UPROOT to the ravey anthem noise found in ‘Break The Seal' by DEPONE & KELLY DEAN." - RivMixx
