TELEPATHE select their winning track - "WHAT IS LOVE" by experimental hip-hop artist AZitiZ from New Orleans. A dubwise yearning backed by accordion and pared-down beats produced by Philadelphia based producer St. Paul, 'What Is Love' is AZitiZ at the peak of her soulful powers.

Her artist name, derived from the Sanskrit meaning 'unadulterated truth', fits an artist who has been compared to the conscious hip-hop sounds of Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu. She initially started out as a percussionist before falling in love with hip-hop. “Life inspires me, the ups, the downs, smiles and frowns,” says AZitiZ.
“Mother Earth inspires me; the stars and the unknown intrigue me. I am influenced by people who follow the heart and, especially, the soul.” AZitiZ releases her debut album ‘The City Of Love’ on September 5th.
Telepathe (pronounced 'telepathy') have fuzzed out AZitiZ's vocal and layered it over a droning backing and hazy synths that recall the experimental work of Animal Collective. Melissa Livaudais and Busy Ganges avantpop has been making (chill)waves in the international scene since their debut album 'Dance Mother' was released in 2009 with TV On The Radio's David Sitek at the controls. The Alphabets Heaven remix meanwhile, transports AZitiZ's vocal into glistening melodic glitchtronica.
All four tracks will be out on special 12-inch vinyl, with artwork designed by artist Harriet Bridgwater. The 12-inch will come with a download code that will enable buyers to download the rest of the top tracks chosen by Telepathe in this cycle, including varied work by I.A.M.M.E, Neotropic, Novoray, [moos], Eggchan & Coopz, Abameida11, Dokkebi Q, Subtitle and Damgroove.
